    Thank you so much, I’m useless at plumbing but this was a perfect guide to solve this exact problem. Thought it was an airlock but after doing this it works like new. Legend 👍

    Sorry mate. You found the AREA of the problem, but not the cause! In your video, you threw away the actual cause at 2' 15". What happens is that the chamber above the washer-body fills with water (which you threw away), and when you try to open he tap, it locks up, because water is incompressible and it has nowhere to go. Had you simply re-assembled the tap, after discarding the water, it would have functioned correctly, for a while. No need to clean up and polish the inside at all! The problem is that this will keep on happening, over and over again. I used to have this problem on an older set of taps and thought I'd cured it when I changed to new tap bodies; and I did, but have now had to change the bodies again and the problem has returned. I need to find a way to let the water out of the chamber above the valve. I believe that the water gets in (I only ever have this problem with the hot tap) after running the hot tap and as it cools, the air inside the chamber contracts, drawing in a small amount of water, which stays there. After repeated uses, the chamber eventually fills up enough to lock the tap, preventing the washer holder rising up into the chamber, which is now partially filled with water. I am first going to try removing the O-ring that seals the chamber. If that works without causing any problems, I'll look for a longer term solution, like maybe a relief groove/hole of some sort. That is the cause of the problem; not dirt, or roughness.

    Looks like the base is at fault. I've fitted surface mounted showers with the same system. Not a problem.

    Hi Hamish, this happened to me today with a tap I fitted about 6 months ago! Was stunned to find your video with my exact tap and exactly the issue I had, thankfully I was home so minimal damage, but still very scary. Will take the advice of the comments and use some loctite. Thank you for bringing this to attention, astonishing that this video is nearly 8 years old and this issue still happening.

    Hi Hamish. I have just fitted a new Echo easy fit Mixer for my friend in Crediton. I found this video after fitting it. It was for a friend, so obviously I am a little concerned. Have they modified the tap since your issues? I checked the grub screws and tightened them up super tight! Any ideas or suggestions on how I can avoid this dismounting issue from happening please. Cheers B

    This just happened to me (July 2023). The Echo tap was fitted 2 months ago. The tap had come loose from the base last weekend and I was going to call the plumber. Monday morning the tap blew off. The plumber blamed me, that I must have knocked it. Bristan blamed the plumber. All very unprofessional and unhelpful.

    Thanks Hamish for your excellent trilogy of videos! I bought a Bristan Echo easyfit a couple of days ago having read the ease of fitting reviews on the ScrewFix website. Then when I came to fit I came across your comments about some of the known problems with these taps. At this point I regretted my decision to purchase the Bristan but I was by now committed. Old tap was off. Water was off.....so I was in a way too far into the job to turn back! Decided to go ahead anyway. The so called push fit connector is an updated one with much improved grub screws having a conical point and running into drilled holes in the base. The overall quality of the unit is good, and Its heavy and well made. The fitting of the push fit connector was however not without complications and I think maybe the word Easyfit should be considered with caution. My connector would'nt go through the sink top hole....the sink is a composite one and quite thick. So I had to split the connector and feed part of it up from underneath. I'm not as young as I was and this was an awkard and difficult thing for me to execute! However everything is now together and working. I've used studlock on the grub screws. The tap looks nice but frankly I wouldn't recommend these taps at all. It's a brilliant concept poorly executed. I will keep an eye on the grub screws but have to say why am I feeling I have to maintain a kitchen tap? I will definitely shut them off when we go away....which basically means I have reservations about their efficiency and safety. Which is in itself a poor reflection on Bristan. At this point I am thinking I will keep this tap for maybe a year and then change it.....just really for peace of mind!

    Guess what, following a recent event where a tap I installed released itself and caused a lot of damage I decided to speak to Bristan to report the incident!! They immediately said it was an installer error and that my reference to these videos and proof the taps were failing was rubbish, they apparently investigated every tap installed referred to in these videos and every single installation was wrong, all were incorrectly installed. They requested a copy invoice proof of purchase and full photos of the tap base and installation!!! Guess I will be looking for a new manufacturer of taps going forward then for all my projects 😞

    I am so worried, I have fitted so many of these easy fit Bristan taps and the first one has just blown off causing havoc and drowning the clients and their kitchen, TV is gone, the dishwasher and a whole load of damage, very concerning and time to stop supplying these taps.

  • @roytucker9056
    @roytucker9056 Рік тому

    I just found this, I have installed so many of these taps I m now very worried, I was not too far from the client when I received a panic call saying the tap head has blown off, they panicked and eventually turned off the water main in the street but there the place was flooded big time and they are very stressful clients in anyway :-( Completely mystified about how this happened I spent four hours cleaning and drying everything but leaving and whilst the client appreciated the effort they are not happy and I am concerned at the consequences, this tap was fitted 6 months ago and I know 100% how tight I did the grub screws up as I do with all installations, I picked the tap from the sink only to find them almost out of their sockets!!! I guess I will be calling Bristan after the Bank Holiday as a matter of urgency. Do you know if there have been any amendments or updates to the design since this video? Thank You.

    If time is not a concern then you can also leave the valve to soak in descaler for 30 mins
